Renewable energy is booming in EU and worldwide. However, large scale application of renewable energy is not always affordable in rural, remote areas of developing countries for inhabitants already confronted with poverty and sometimes lack of information. These remote and/or rural areas are in many situations not connected to the national energy grid or the electricity delivery is not working properly .. Also in the 2Seas region, the mass uptake of solar energy is not yet optimal. New and improved technologies for solar energy harvesting and storage together with smart strategies related to optimal energy flow in such systems may lead to more energy self-sufficiency both in EU and in developing countries.
