HT Trace Brugge - Eeklo

The above ground high-voltage line north of Maldegem (green line) on the territory of Brugge, Damme, Sint-laureins and Eeklo disappears underground (dashed line). ELIA took this decision together with the municipality of Brugge, Damme and Maldegem. Beside that, the current line south of Maldegem will be demolished (yellow line).

The new subterranean connection runs from Brugge Waggelwater to Eeklo-North, over the territory of Brugge, Damme, Maldegem, Sint-Laureins and Eeklo.

AVALON L+E will be in charge of the roads and landscape restoration. Special attention is paid to the preservation of soil structure and the protection of trees in the vicinity of the construction works. Our job also includes the civil engineering part of the job, the restoration of the road infrastructure. In consultation with several road managers, we will always look for a sustainable solution.

The construction phase will start in August 2018 with the construction of the subterranean 150 kV cable connection between Brugge Waggelwater and Eeklo-North and with de demolition of the current, above ground 150 kV connection north of Maldegem and Sijsele, between Brugge Zuidervaart and Eeklo-North.

When we’ve established the new, subterranean cable connection, it will be able to take down a second existing high voltage line in 2020. This line currently runs north of Brugge, via Sijsele and south of Maldegem to Eeklo-Pokmoer.
